YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Legislation
Health and Safety provision is a legal duty
of every Employer or Self-Employed
person. The Health and Safety at Work Act
1974 (HASWA) stipulates that it is the duty
of every employer to ensure the health,
safety and welfare at work of all their
employees so far as is reasonably practical.
As an employer YOU have a legal
obligation under the Health & Safety (First-
Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Approved
Code of Practice and Guidance (ACOP L74)
to make adequate and appropriate First Aid
provision for your workforce.
We Can Help You
- Identify your needs to meet your legal obligation
- Minimise the consequences of accidents on your business
- Demonstrate your commitment to the safety of employees
- Reduce the risk of injury litigation
- Lower the post accident return to work time
- Improve staff working relations and morale
- Save money
First Aid For Every Workplace
Every workplace is different. We've
structured our courses so that we can
tackle the issues relevant to each and every
student. There's plenty of emphasis on the
practical skills that are needed back at work,
so the student returns confident to cope with
a First Aid emergency
First Aid is a skill that should be open to all.
Our courses make the most of educational
resources to accommodate each individual's
preferred learning style. Their learning is
more effective and the courses are also more
accessible to the one in five British adults
with a literacy problem, and those for whom
English is a second language.
Risk Assessments
Each employer should carry out their own risk
assessment to establish the level of First Aid
cover required at each location.
You will need to consider factors, such as
the size of the workplace and the number of
hazards or risks it contains. You should
consider shift patterns if appropriate. Don't
forget that you will need enough First Aiders
to cover for each other's annual leave and,
from time to time, sick leave.
The HSE Recommends That First Aiders Should
- Possess an aptitude to absorb new knowledge and skills.
- Be able to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures.
- Have duties that do not prevent them from going immediately to assisst at an incident.
